Lezlie Park is Assistant Director of the Writing Program. She teaches composition and rhetoric courses including Elements of Grammar, Introduction to Academic Writing, and Research Writing in a Persuasive Mode. Lezlie also coordinates USU’s composition program at our three sister campuses in China. In addition to Writing Program courses, Lezlie teaches general education literature courses including Introduction to Shakespeare, Understanding Literature, and Perspectives in Literature.
Lezlie’s research interests are eclectic and mainly revolve around cultural intersections. Her primary area of literary inquiry, gender in medieval and early modern texts, was the topic of her master’s thesis -- “The Rhetoric of Love: a Comparative Analysis of Korean Kisaeng and Occitanian Trobairitz Lyric Poetry,” and was presented at The Society for Intercultural Comparative Literature conference at Princeton University in 2001. An advocate of library instruction in composition courses, she recently published an article in RUSQ with USU reference librarian, Pamela Martin, which studied the effects of library instruction in student writing. Lezlie was most recently involved in studying the effects of contingent labor in academia. Her study, “Sketching the Margins: An Ethnographic Approach to Understanding the Impact of Contingent Labor Abuse” was presented at the National Association of American University Professors Annual Conference in June 2010. Lezlie spent three years teaching English conversation and writing at the Buddhist University, Dongguk DaeHayko in Seoul, where she studied Chosun Dynasty poetry. Lezlie was involved in editing an anthology of papers presented at a conference at Georgetown University on the subject of politically sanctioned sexual violence against women, Legacies of the Comfort Women of World War II. She currently chairs the University Studies Five Courses Committee which establishes general education course learning objectives and standards and spearheads Writing Program assessment.
