Swenson House Poetry Walkabout and introduction to the Swenson Legacy Student Poetry Contest, Aug. 16, 2018, 5:20 PM, 669 E 500 N, Logan. Packet of poems and prompts will be posted on the College and the Department website/media pages from Aug. 16-Sept. 7 for students to enter the contest. Walkabout is free and open to the public.

Swenson Legacy Student Poetry Contest

In conjunction with the upcoming Swenson House groundbreaking ceremony (Sept. 18 at 1:30), Logan Poet Laureate Star Coulbrooke announces the Swenson Legacy Student Poetry Contest. Open to all USU and high school students, August 16-September 7, contest entries must include/be-inspired-by a line from one of May Swenson’s poems. 

Lines and prompts will be provided at the Swenson House Walkabout, Thursday, August 16, 5:20 PM, 669 East 500 North, on the original family home site at the foot of Old Main Hill, after which the prompts will be found on the English Department website and social media.  

First place Swenson Legacy Student poetry contest winner will receive $300 and read at the groundbreaking ceremony; second place winner receives $100; and two finalists win $50 each. All four will attend the Charter Donor Luncheon at noon and their poems will be published on the program.
