FAQ

I’m in an English class. Can I use the lab?

Some classes that require the Suite Lab fee include ENGL 1010, ENGL 2010, Intro and Advanced Creative Writing courses, and most Technical Writing courses. Literary History classes do not usually require the lab fee. A student’s declared English major does not ensure that that student will have lab access every semester.

I’ve paid the lab fee. How many prints do I have?

Each student who pays the Suite Lab fee receives 400 black and white prints, to be used at his or her discretion. These prints can be double- or single-sided. Students also have the option of printing in color. One color print is the equivalent of four black and white prints, and one double-sided print counts as two prints.

Do my prints roll over?

Lab access lasts for the duration of the semester for which the student pays the lab fee, and expires on the last day of finals week. Lab access and prints do not roll over to the following semester unless a student enrolls in another class that requires lab access and pays the fee again.

What if I run out of prints?

Students can purchase additional prints at a prorated price. Ask a lab consultant for more information.

Can I pay for lab access even if I’m not enrolled in a qualifying class?

Yes. Students whose classes do not require the $65 lab fee can still pay the fee if they desire to use the lab. Talk with a lab consultant or visit the English office, room 201, for more information.

What services are available in the lab?

In addition to printing and using the Suite Lab computers, students who have paid the lab fee can make copies, which will be deducted from their print balance. Students can also scan files to their flash drive or send files directly to their email. A variety of supplies--including staplers, a hole punch, and a paper cutter--and two upright print ‘n’ go computers are available for student use. Headphones available upon request.

Lab computers offer a variety of software, including Camtasia, Adobe Suite, and Microsoft Office. All of this software is available to students with lab access.

Can I print on cardstock?

The Suite Lab does not keep cardstock on hand. If a student desires to print on cardstock or other heavyweight/colored paper, he or she should bring it to the lab. One print will be deducted from that student’s account balance for each black and white page printed. Students should ask a lab consultant for assistance before printing.

Can you edit my paper?

If students need assistance with their writing, they should visit the Writing Center, located next door in room 104.

What should I do if I need help?

Lab consultants are present in the lab at all times to help students use the equipment and answer any questions they might have. Lab cons are prepared to help with printing, navigating computer software, logging on to the computers, etc.

A Note: The lab often fills to capacity during the ten- and fifteen-minute breaks between classes. Jobs will be printed in the order they are received. Students who need to print papers before their classes should plan accordingly.
